UMBA Scholarships
For over 35 years, UMBA has provided an annual scholarship award to students in the Bucks County area to assist those in financial need with furthering their education beyond high school — helping to offset the cost of books and tuition.
Each year, recipients are selected from local schools with awards of $1,000 per scholarship per year, renewable for up to four years, meaning UMBA actively supports multiple students simultaneously throughout their college careers. Award payments are made in installments, dependent on recipients maintaining satisfactory grades.
The Revolutionary Run, held every July 4th at Washington Crossing Historic Park, plays a pivotal role in generating the financial support that keeps this program thriving year after year.
Upper Makefield Township Emergency Services Fund
The Upper Makefield Township Emergency Services Fund is a dedicated fund that supports the volunteer fire, rescue, and ambulance services that protect the residents of Upper Makefield Township.
Monies contributed to the fund are used for Township emergency services, with past investments including the purchase of a flat-bottom boat for the Upper Makefield Township Volunteer Fire Company - enabling water rescues in shallow and rocky river terrain - as well as improvements to the crew room for the ambulance squad at the Taylorsville Road firehouse and the purchase of generators for emergency use.
UMBA organizes the annual Revolutionary Run on July 4th at Washington Crossing Historic Park to raise funds for the Emergency Services Fund, community scholarships, and those in need throughout the area.
UMBA Sunshine Fund
The UMBA Sunshine Fund is a community relief fund dedicated to helping local residents in Upper Makefield and the surrounding area who are facing unexpected hardship.
Through the Sunshine Fund, UMBA members identify local residents who may be struggling - families affected by job loss, illness, or sudden hardship -and direct support to where it is needed most. The fund reflects UMBA's deeply personal, neighbor-to-neighbor approach to community giving, ensuring that help stays close to home and reaches real people in times of crisis.
Like the scholarship program and the Emergency Services Fund, the Sunshine Fund is one of the key beneficiaries of the annual Revolutionary Run, held every July 4th at Washington Crossing Historic Park, with proceeds from the race helping to keep this vital safety net available to those who need it most throughout the year.
Upper Makefield Volunteer Fire Department
The Upper Makefield Fire Company is a 100% volunteer, all-unpaid group of men and women — working parents, small business owners, tradespeople, professionals, and retirees — committed to making a difference in their community and helping neighbors in their time of need.
Based in Washington Crossing along the Delaware River in Bucks County, the company is responsible for fire protection services for Upper Makefield Township, responding around the clock to fires, accidents, water rescues, and other emergencies.
On RevRun morning, the dedicated volunteers of the Upper Makefield Fire Company go above and beyond their everyday heroism by managing parking for the thousands of runners, walkers, and supporters who descend on Washington Crossing Historic Park every July 4th — a logistical contribution that is essential to the smooth running of the event. UMBA is grateful for their continued partnership and proud to count the Fire Company among the RevRun's most valued community allies.
Newtown Ambulance Squad
Newtown EMS is the primary provider of emergency medical services for Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, and Upper Makefield Township, serving the heart of Bucks County with professionalism and dedication.
As part of the Bucks County EMS system, Newtown EMS responded to more than 2,800 emergency calls in 2024, operating from their station in Newtown Township and their sub-station in Washington Crossing at the Upper Makefield Fire Department. All paramedics and emergency medical technicians are fully licensed and certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, with employees and volunteers receiving ongoing training to ensure they are using the best practices and technologies for treating patients.
On RevRun morning, Newtown EMS provides vital on-site medical standby coverage throughout the race, giving runners, walkers, and spectators alike the peace of mind that skilled emergency care is right there if needed. UMBA is proud to have Newtown EMS as a trusted partner in making the Revolutionary Run a safe and successful event for the entire community.
Upper Makefield Volunteer Fire Department
Washington Crossing Historic Park preserves the site of George Washington's dramatic crossing of the Delaware River during the American Revolution and is a designated National Historic Landmark. The 500-acre park is headquartered in the village of Washington Crossing in Upper Makefield Township, Bucks County, and is operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in partnership with the Friends of Washington Crossing Park.
Each year the park hosts thousands of visitors, from local schoolchildren to visitors from around the world, who come to see the point from which a battered and dispirited American army launched a counterattack that reversed its long losing streak, preserving its will to fight and maintaining the revolutionary spirit that would lead to independence for the United States. The lower park includes 13 historic buildings, including McConkey's Ferry Inn, where General George Washington and his aides ate dinner and made plans prior to the crossing.
It is only fitting that this hallowed ground — the very birthplace of American independence — serves as the backdrop for the Revolutionary Run every July 4th, where runners of all ages follow in the footsteps of history while helping to raise funds for the local community. UMBA is proud and honored to call Washington Crossing Historic Park home for the RevRun each and every year.
